Bali Direct Farm Tour
Want to see for yourself exactly where your fresh organic fruits and veggies come from?
Well now you can!
On our first ever Bali Direct Farm Tour, we had the pleasure of taking 10 folks on a tour of the Bukit Mesari Farm, an organic farm in Bedugul that supplies Bali Direct with a wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. If you missed the tour, don’t worry! We’ll be holding another tour on 14 April, and you can sign up by emailing us at info@balidirectstore.com.
The first tour was a beautiful day in the mountains of north Bali, and we had a wonderful morning learning about organic farming, asking lots of questions, and harvesting our own fruits and vegetables to bring home.
The head of the Bukit Mesari Farmers Coalition, Bapak Wayan, offered fascinating insight into his process for growing organic produce, and gave thoughtful answers to everyone’s questions during an extensive Q&A.
Afterwards the group picked tamarillo straight off the tree, plucked fresh carrots out of the ground, and learned how to correctly cut wild arugula off the stem. We were even introduced to the exotic ice cream fruit, a first for everyone in the group. Wayan was extremely happy to share his work with us, and the group went home with produce in hand and a new appreciation for the idea of “farm to table.”
The motivation behind Bali Direct Farm Tours is rooted in our commitment to transparency. Simply put, transparency is at the core of our business. It’s the reason why we conduct periodic visits to all of our suppliers’ production sites, and it’s why we label our products so that you know exactly where they come from and how they’re made. Our goal is to offer as much information as possible for customers to make conscious, well-informed decisions about the food they eat.
Even though our store clearly identifies the supplier and cultivation behind every product, as we conducted our most recent round of farm visits, we thought, why not take it up a notch? Why not give our customers the opportunity to visit these farms as well? Given how much we love doing it ourselves, we thought it selfish of us not to share in the fun. This prompted us to organize the first farm tour a few weeks ago, and it will continue to provide the impetus for us to facilitate tours on a monthly basis.
After the success of our first tour, we’re excited to announce that the next Bali Direct Farm Tour will be held on 14 April. Participants will be brought to Bedugul for another thoughtful tour lead by Wayan, and we’ll spend the morning learning all about organic farming before getting to pick fresh produce straight out of the ground to take home.
The cost of the tour will be Rp 200,000, and this will cover everything including transportation. If you’re interested in joining us, you can sign up by emailing info@balidirectstore.com.
